Installing A Hot Tub On Your Deck

Installing a Hot Tub on Your Deck
< Back to Resources & How-To's

One of the best places to install your new Nordic Hot Tub is on your deck! Especially if it is an elevated structure, you will have great views while you relax.

But, not all decks are created equal. While your deck may be more than adequate for hosting backyard grilling parties, it may not be designed to hold the considerable weight of a hot tub filled with water and people.

Always check local ordinances and building codes before you begin building!

First, consult with a qualified building contractor or structural engineer before placing your hot tub on an elevated deck. You want to make sure your deck structure is strong enough to bear the weight of your filled hot tub and that it is in compliance with local building ordinances.

Second, give the contractor your hot tub specifications which includes the dry weight and the water capacity of the hot tub. Nordic provides all the necessary specifications for each tub both on our website and in the owners manual for each hot tub. Don’t forget to add the weight of the people that will be enjoying the hot tub!

Your deck design is limited only by your imagination. Placing your hot tub on top of the deck is one of the easiest installations. This also provides quick access for using your hot tub and servicing components!

However, if you want to install your hot tub below the deck or build a custom deck around it, make sure to inform the contractor you will need to have an unblocked area around the access panel for servicing your hot tub, should the need arise.
