Starting in business in 1967, Ray and Donetta Klubnik, were the first Troy-Bilt rototiller dealer in the world.   Ray and Donetta had five children, all of which made their careers in the family business.  

As the second generation took the lead and the market changed, the equipment dealership was sold and The Place expanded into hot tubs, hearth, outdoor cooking, and recently patio furniture.  Their 30,000 square foot facility houses 75 hot tubs, 25 burning fireplaces displays, a wide variety of grills, a nine-bay service shop and warehousing. 

“We make it easy, we are the experts, and we offer the best brands. We aren’t satisfied until our clients are!” states Andrea Reedy, President.  She knows that most of her business comes from repeat clients or referrals for these very reasons. “We educate the client” says Andrea. “We give them the tools to make their decision, supporting them before and after their purchase.   Our aftercare program includes Spa Classes where they learn to minimize maintenance and maximize enjoyment!”

The Place focuses on the WELLNESS aspect of hot tubs and swim spas.  Andrea will be speaking at the Global Center for Heath Innovation during the Global Wellness Day Celebration, in June, and the Get Fit Healthy Living Expo, in December, on the health benefits of warm water.  Both events are being held in Cleveland Ohio.  “People need to know that hot tubs aren’t just for relaxation and romance.  Swim spas offer so much more than swimming pools.  Hot tubs and swim spas are wonderful venues for exercise and health improvement.  The benefits of adding warm water to a wellness lifestyle are amazing.  Individuals, families, and communities can improve health and happiness by ‘getting themselves into hot water’ “laughs Andrea.

Another thing that makes Andrea and The Place so successful is her willingness to take a hard look at what they are doing and how it’s being done.   “Like an automobile dealership, we recondition and sell ‘Certified Pre-Owned’units.”  This is one of the many ideas she gets from her brother Ray Klubnik, President of Hot Tub Liquidators in Las Vegas.  “Ray worked in the family business for twenty years and then bravely opened his own store in Las Vegas.  We are very grateful he brought in spas 25 years ago and for his ideas today.” Andrea says with a smile.

The Place has been with Nordic for 25 of their 50 years in business.  “This year is quite a year of celebration for us with our 50th Anniversary!” exclaims Andrea.  “Nordic is easy to work with and they make a great product.  Warranty issues are extremely low.  I know when we sell a Nordic; we are going to have a very satisfied client!”

What advice would Andrea give to other dealers?  “Continue learning and refining your systems!”

Backyard Staycations

Nestled along I-65 in Southern Indiana is the town of Sellersburg, home to Nordic Hot Tub Dealer, Backyard Staycations.   Ken, Ellen and Troy Hecker founded the business 19 years ago.  From small beginnings they have grown to employing 15 people in season. 

Backyard Staycations is the place you would go to imagine and furnish your backyard, turning it into a sanctuary.  From pools and spas to grills; from coolers to indoor and outdoor gaming for kids ages 2 to 92!  They will assist you in turning your home into a personalized paradise.  Be careful though, your backyard may become the ‘go-to’ vacation spot!  (You may not want to let that secret out!)

Nathan Couch, General Manager, is very proud of the reputation of Backyard Staycations.  When asked what sets their business apart from the rest, he replies, “A quality reputation!”  On their website is a statement which says they are committed to “providing personal attention to each and every one of [their] loyal and new customers.”  This is a business that is true to their word.  The evidence is the 5-star reviews they have on both Yelp and Facebook!   Their customers rank them as very professional with great service and fair prices. 

As the General Manager, Nathan is always busy with increasing new sales and retaining satisfied customers.  They became a Nordic Dealer approximately 3 years ago and Nathan says, “Thanks Nordic!” He states that his favorite things about Nordic are the reliability and value of the product and the ease of delivery. 

Nordic is also happy that Backyard Staycations came on board!  They hosted a Truckload Sale Event last April and have already booked another for later this year.

2017 is going to be a great year for Nathan and the crew.  He is looking forward to “providing products to our customers that they see as a blessing for years to come!”

Clearwater Spas

Don Adams founded the business about 30 years ago after he bought a used wooden hot tub and needed to service it. There was no one to help him so, being the engineer that he is, Don figured it out!  Others soon heard of his ability to fix hot tubs and he formed his own service company. The little company grew into what has become Clearwater Spas today.  “Service is still a huge, underserviced aspect of the market,” states Don.  “Our niche is that we offer same day service on what we sell!”

Employing 3 full-time employees, Clearwater sells hot tubs, saunas and barbeque grills.  However, the hot tub sales have expanded and now account for the majority of his sales.

Clearwater has a stellar reputation for great customer service. We are good at what we do! We have over 300 5-star ratings on our website!” says Don proudly. “Most of our business is from word-of-mouth and personal referrals.”

Don is a veteran in the retail hot tub industry and understands the associated challenges.  Sometimes local permits can be tricky to obtain but knowing how to avoid those pitfalls is one of the things that has helped give Clearwater Spas its longevity.  Don also knows that when customers are strictly price-shopping he can be undercut by big-box stores.  However, he is quick to point out that once he is able to help a customer see the value of his personal sales and service, he usually closes the sale.

Clearwater Spas has just had its best year since 1994!  But, Don isn’t resting on that for very long! His goal for the coming year is to keep concentrating on what he does best, selling hot tubs! He already has a plan in place to increase his marketing and he has committed to hiring more staff.

Don likes carrying the Nordic line of hot tubs because he feels it is an outstanding company to work with.  The reliability of the Nordic products makes life easier from both sales and service aspects.

“I don’t usually give business advice,” states Don. However, he goes on to say that giving the best customer service is really the most important aspect of business.  Don says “Running a business isn’t rocket science…it’s just good customer service!”
